The other day I was talking to a friend about taking a vacation from work purely for the purpose of playing video games for a week straight. I enjoy a get away trip to some new place as much as the next guy, but something about that sounds exhausting right now. Also people are annoying and shit so I think I need a vacation from them most of all. Moral of the story is: quit work, play video games.
Game – Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth | Platform – Vita
When Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth was first announced I remember signing a petition to have it localized for the US. It’s weird to think that back then I wanted to play this game so much I was willing to sacrifice a fake email address. I’ve put about 4 hours into the game so far, and I’m enjoying it but I feel like the game hasn’t won me over completely yet. I don’t have the desire to “catch em’ all” like in a Pokemon game. Nor do I know if I should bother leveling a lot of Digimon or stick to a core party of three. Hopefully the game expands on its leveling and battle systems more as I keep playing. But from the outset they look like they may be shallow.
Game – Metroid: Zero Mission | Platform – Wii U
I was jazzed once I found out Nintendo was bringing Metroid Zero Mission to the North American Wii U Virtual Console. I had missed paying it when it came out on the GBA years ago. I’ve sat down and had a couple of play sessions with it and I am really digging it. I’ve only ever played Metroid Prime 1 and 2, so I always wanted to play the original 2D games. I actually tried playing the original Metroid on the 3DS VC and holy shit that game is a relic. I didn’t mind dropping it since Zero Mission is a remake.
The last boss I killed was the giant alien wasp thing on the way to Ridley. I read that Zero Mission isn’t very long, so I may be on my way to beating it soon. I may just go through the series after this game so I’m looking forward to finally playing Corruption, Fusion, and Super Metroid.
Game – Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune | Platform – PS3
So I used to have this unfounded hate for the Uncharted series. I had no interest in the games or their premise. Coincidentally I finally saw all three Indiana Jones movies in the last year, and all of a sudden Uncharted had my interest. I decided to play through the games on the PS3 as opposed to the PS4, but only because I had somehow acquired all three games over the years I didn’t want to pay for games I already owned.
Well after playing the Drake’s Fortune for about 3 hours I can now say that I’m a fan. It is really difficult to not like Drake and his buddies, and the story is compelling me to keep moving forward in the game. The cover based shooting can get a little clunky and the jet ski sections are shit, though. But I’m having a good time. The second Uncharted is hailed as the best but I can definitely see how the first one got people’s attention.
