 Mass Effect: Andromeda Review

Ore

  • Solid gunplay, varied enemies, and cool powers make combat fun
  • There are plenty of large worlds with interesting environments; I especially liked the low gravity areas
  • I will always love the races and lore from the initial mass effect galaxy
  • The various multiplayer maps and characters are solid

Slag

  • There are so many low effort side quests. The game tries to help you by breaking down their importance, but they still clutter your map and even supposedly more important quests sometimes have you driving halfway across the galaxy through multiple loading screens only to return to where you started.
  • There are some decent moments with the new crew, but overall they are a watered down shadow of the original group(s)
  • Even after multiple patches the facial animations vary wildly in quality and are often so uncanny that they wreck any emotional reactions (bad for an RPG)

Verdict

As a longtime fan of the Mass Effect series I am probably one of only a select few that enjoyed the game enough to complete almost all of the side quests. I’m not sure it would be worth even a quick play through if you don’t already love Krogans, Turians, Salarians, Asari, and all the other greatest hits from the original trilogy.

Whether its to meet the team Overall Rating(OVR) requirements of a league, get better % chances in the VS Attack mode, or just have a cooler team in general one thing is for sure – you always need to be on the lookout for higher OVR players with better stats in order to succeed in FIFA Mobile. To that end, here is my list of the cheapest and most cost effective FIFA Mobile Players with High OVRs.

 1. Álvaro Morata – ST

Álvaro Morata, newly of Chelsea, is the first player on our list. At 85 OVR he is a decently high level striker who can be had for a buy now price of around 22,000 coins. However, before splashing the cash on this acquisition make sure that you can’t just get him from one of the reoccurring football freeze events.

2. Digne – LWB

Left Wing Back Digne is the first of the new Bastille Day players to grace our list, but he won’t be the last. This new event flooded the market with cheap options that provide team bonuses, and Digne is no exception as he has an OVR of 84 and comes in at around 15,000 coins.

3. Kimpembe – CB

Kimpembe is another Bastille Day player, this time a centre-back. CB is one of the most important positions in the game, as nearly every decent formation uses multiple of the position. Enter Kimpembe who, with an OVR of 84, also costs around 15,000 coins.

4. Mangala or Godín – CB

Fourth we have a couple of more expensive centre-backs, Bastille Day Mangala or good ole Diego Godín of Atletico Madrid. Both of these CBs are 85 OVR with better stats than similarly priced competition, and both can be bought for approximately 25,000 coins.

5. Lens – RW

Players 5 and 6 on this list are definitely the biggest and best bang for your buck in the game right now. Number 5 is Lens, an 88 OVR right winger. This high level player will most likely stay in your team for a while to come, and the sheer number available has driven his purchase price down to around 20,000 coins.

6. Toornstra – CAM

Finally, saving the best for last, number 6 on the list is the Center Attacking Mid from Eredivisie- Toornstra. Toornstra is a level 88 OVR CAM with fantastic stats, including 3 bonus points for other Eredivisie players, who can be yours for only around 15,000 coins! With the number of formations that require CAMs it is no surprise that most VS attack teams seem to have him on the squad. If you’re looking to build a competitive squad from the player market there is no better place to start.

 Final Fantasy XV Review

Ore

  • From the landscapes, architecture, and character models, the in-game world is beautifully crafted. All of these aspects come together to make Final Fantasy XV is one of the most visually impressive JRPGs of all time.
  • Battles produce the best moments in Final Fantasy XV because the in-game combat is fast and fun. The spectacle of combat caused by the combination of special attacks, spells, and summons is unlike any other game.
  • The four main characters are the heart and soul of the game. Their bond is highlighted through both the narrative and the gameplay.
  • The mechanics behind stat management and character building are modern and well implemented.
  • Final Fantasy XV has, without a doubt, one of the best scores in the series. The game’s main theme is a particular standout.

Slag

  • Although the narrative ending of the game can be appreciated in most regards, it is disappointing in regards to how the story was built up to that point.
  • Most side quests, which serve as your primary means of gaining items and leveling, amount to nothing more than going from point A to point B.
  • There are a few aspects of the story, such as characters and lore, that feel underdeveloped and rushed.

Verdict

Even though it may not bring JRPGs back to the mainstream like Final Fantasy VII did, Final Fantasy XV represents a strong beginning of a new era for the once revered series.

 Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth Review

Ore

  • Using the multiple in game systems to build and train a team of Digimon for the turn-based combat is engaging.
  • The art style and graphics are enjoyable and lend themselves well to the game’s source material.
  • Cyber Sleuth’s general loop of exploring dungeons, battling and acquiring new Digimon, completing side quests, and advancing the main story, never feels like a chore as the loop can be in other JRPGs.
  • Fans of the Digimon franchise will find a lot to appreciate in Cyber Sleuth, but fans of JRPGs in general can appreciate it as well.

Slag

  • Several of the main characters in the story follow anime tropes to a disappointing degree. They fail to develop their own identity, outside of a select few, which in turn hurts the story as a whole.
  • Although completing side quests is a good way to gain experience, it is easy to become under leveled for the main story without some grinding.
  • Cyber Sleuth unfortunately uses the dated mechanic of random encounters as its method for initiating combat.

Verdict

JRPG fans will find a lot to love in Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth. But for Digimon fans, it is one of the best Digimon games ever made.

Star Wars Force Arena Review

Slag

  • Engaging MOBA-style combat that’s complex, but still manageable on a touchscreen
  • Good variety of troops and heroes with frequent additions so far
  • Lots of ways to progress and get free packs and heroes
  • Quests force you to play different heroes and gametypes
  • Since launch devs have added lots of features and tweaks

Ore

  • At this point balance seems to swing wildly from rebel to empire and back
  • Seems like it might be nearly impossible to balance 1v1 and 2v2 formats
  • Whales can and have dropped oodles of cash on beefing up their troops, heroes, and turrets

Verdict

Explanation

Rather than the entire team voting on one overarching “Game of the Year”, we’ve decided to follow the lead of most other game review websites and take the coward’s way out. What this means for you is that we’ve let the three authors who could be bothered list their favorite 2016 games in a 1 to 5 format (except Ryan who demanded 10 picks). Enjoy.

 Ratchet & Clank Review

Ore

  • The PS2 era shooter mechanics of Ratchet & Clank feel modernized and enjoyably refreshing compared to other shooters.
  • Combat is explosive, colorful, and fun all while looking and sounding great.
  • The updated graphics are visually impressive.
  • Gameplay has just the right amount of variety that you do not get very often in modern shooters.

Slag

  • One secret weapon, that is relatively easy to unlock, essentially removes all challenge from later levels.
  • The cutscenes from the movie tie in do not blend well with in game graphics.
  • There were missed opportunities for more world exploration.

Verdict

Ratchet & Clank on the PS4 is exactly what you want a remake to be. Whether you played or missed the original PS2 third person shooter classic, you will have a blast with this one.

 Furi Review

Ore

  • Every boss character in the game just radiates style, but they also are great because of their unique mechanics designed around the game’s combat system.
  • The high, but fair, difficulty of each boss fight makes the thrill of success and mastery all the more rewarding.
  • Furi’s gameplay successfully draws inspiration from other character action games such as Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, but its refined focus on only 1v1 combat gives it an identity all its own.
  • The visual and audio spectacle of combat is hard hitting and cool.
  • The narrative moments are great at building tension before the next boss fight and offering respite after.

Slag

  • Furi’s story is short and too the point, but it would be nice to see more interactions between the characters of its world.
  • Navigating between each boss fight is mechanically awkward if you don’t use the auto walk button.
  • Two times during a play through of the game, the game glitched and the screen turned black. This is particularly egregious considering the game is just a series of intense boss fights.

Verdict

Furi creates its own identity among other great character action games. Fans of the genre will find a lot to love in Furi as it is a textbook example of how thoroughly refined combat can be the backbone of a gameplay experience.

 Overcooked Review

Ore

  • Among numerous shooters, platformers, and RPGs, Overcooked stands out because it is a fun arcade style game about cooking in a restaurant.
  • Overcooked succeeds as a great co-op game because it encourages strategizing and teamwork in order to complete levels.
  • The art design and music are charming and memorable.
  • The creative level design will keep you always wanting to see what is next.

Slag

  • Overcooked has a fun narrative premise, but the end of the story is anti-climatic and disappointing.
  • A lot of the game’s fun factor is lost if it is not played cooperatively.
  • The competitive multiplayer is not nearly as entertaining as the cooperative multiplayer.

Verdict

If you are looking for a cooperative game that is easy for gamers of all skill levels to pick up and appreciate, Overcooked is the game for you. But if you plan on playing it solo you are better off passing on it.

We here at GameSmelter have played a lot of games throughout the years. Too many in fact. Every once in awhile we will write up a bunch of new quick reviews, throw them all together, and post them in what is known as a GameSmelter Review Drop. Click on the images below to go to the full quick review.

LEGO The Lord of the Rings

Although it’s by no means a must play video game, if you are a fan of The Lord of the Rings films and you’re looking for a fun co-op action adventure game go ahead and give this one a spin.

Sonic Dash

Sonic fans are a dedicated group but Sonic Dash is hard to recommend to them or anyone else. Even with the game being free to play, you a better off playing a different runner or Sonic game.

Uncharted: Drake’s Fortune

Uncharted stands out among all Third Person Shooters thanks to its top of the line production, fun traversal, and movie caliber story. It is unfortunate that a lot of the experience is burdened by the sub par shooting mechanics.
