GameSmelter 2016 Game of the Year – Team Picks
Rather than the entire team voting on one overarching “Game of the Year”, we’ve decided to follow the lead of most other game review websites and take the coward’s way out. What this means for you is that we’ve let the three authors who could be bothered list their favorite 2016 games in a 1 to 5 format (except Ryan who demanded 10 picks). Enjoy.
1. Final Fantasy XV
After over a decade in development, Final Fantasy XV finally released in late 2016. And for the first time in a long time, Final Fantasy XV reminds us why Final Fantasy is the paramount Japanese RPG franchise.
3. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth
Doom represents a return to form with a vengeance. It is a testament to the level of action that can only be achieved when a FPS is firing on all cylinders. There is no doubt that Doom has cemented its place with the all time classics of the FPS genre.
2. Titanfall 2
3. Enter the Gungeon
4. The Witness
7. Hyper Light Drifter
8. Devil Daggers
9. Pocket Card Jokey
Blizzard Entertainment first foreay into the competitive FPS genre was a unquestionable success with the release of Overwatch. It mixes highly refined gameplay with unrivaled presentation to create one of the best games in recent years.
2. Civilization VI
3. Total War: Warhammer
4. Titanfall 2
5. The Banner Saga 2
